Chestnut Congo Hiking Staff (Code: 1401) 1401 - Classic Canes Congo chestnut hiking staff A characterful walking stick suitable for country walks.  Grown from coppiced chestnut wood, this staff has an attractive colour and is fitted with a leather wrist strap. The congo effect is produced by pinching the growing chestnut stick at intervals along its length, a year before it is due to be harvested.  The wounds then grow over.  When the stick is harvested, the bark is removed to reveal the knobbly cane underneath.  The ferrule is a 'Combi-ferrule': a rubber ferrule fitted over a spiked one, so that the staff may be used on both hard and soft surfaces.  Overall height approximately 122cm (48").  Item weight is approximately 495g.
